Metal Findings
Metal Findings Explained
Each piece of jewellery is made with care – and that includes what holds it all together.
You’ll find information about the metal used in each product description. If you’re unsure or want a specific metal for a gift or sensitive skin, feel free to message me – I’ll be happy to help! I’m also happy to swap metal components to better suit your needs – just get in touch before placing an order.
Whether you’re here for something dainty and golden or durable and hypoallergenic, I’ve chosen the metal findings I use for their look, quality and long-term wear. Here’s what you’ll find in most of my pieces:

Stainless Steel
Known for its durability and corrosion resistance, stainless steel is an excellent choice for jewellery. It doesn’t tarnish or rust easily and has exceptional heat resistance. This metal is hypoallergenic, making it suitable for those with sensitive skin. Regular cleaning is advisable to maintain its longevity.

18k PVD Gold-Plated Stainless Steel
Combines the durability of stainless steel with a rich 18k gold colour using a process called PVD (Physical Vapor Deposition). Unlike traditional gold plating, which can fade or flake over time, PVD creates a more durable and long-lasting bond. It’s water-resistant, tarnish-resistant hypoallergenic (great for sensitive skin). Perfect for everyday wear. It has the look of solid gold, but without the high price – and it stays golden for years when cared for properly.

14k Gold Filled (Rolled Gold)
Offering a balance between quality and cost, gold-filled components comprise a solid brass core layered with a substantial amount of gold through a heat and pressure bonding process. By law, gold-filled items must contain at least 5% or 1/20 of gold by weight. This method ensures durability, making these pieces resilient to tarnishing, flaking, or peeling. They are a great choice for those seeking lasting and affordable gold jewellery.
The primary difference between gold filled and gold plated items is the thickness of the gold layer. Gold-filled items have a thicker layer, offering better durability compared to gold-plated items that may wear or flake over time.

Sterling Silver
Sterling silver is a timeless choice, valued for its bright, cool-toned finish and quality feel. It’s an excellent option for sensitive skin and those looking for a more premium metal. While it can naturally tarnish over time — especially when exposed to humidity — regular wear actually helps prevent this. The natural contact with your skin and clothing gently keeps the surface polished.
Any darkening that does occur can be easily cleaned with the polishing cloth included in your order. A little care goes a long way to keeping it shining for years to come.

Solid Gold
Solid gold is a luxurious and lasting option, perfect for marking special moments or creating a truly timeless piece. It’s naturally hypoallergenic and resistant to tarnishing, making it ideal for everyday wear and lifelong keepsakes. Upon request, you have the option to commission pieces in solid gold. If it’s something you’re interested in, feel free to enquire about details and avability.
Please note: I now use only gold-filled jump rings in all pieces with gold finishes. I previously used gold-plated ones but found that they could tarnish over time — switching to gold-filled ensures better durability and keeps your jewellery looking golden for longer.

Gold Platd
Stainless Steel
14k Gold Plated
This variation involves electroplating a thin layer of gold, typically around 0.05%, onto stainless steel. While providing an affordable alternative to solid gold jewellery, it’s important to note that the gold layer may eventually wear off over time, particularly with consistent use.
